Pregnancy
If you are a mum to be or dad to be, the best way to prepare for pregnancy is by looking after your mental, spiritual and physical selves. Yoga, Meditation, Education, Birth Videos and maternity clothing are just some of the ways a pregnancy can be enjoyed by both a mum to be and dad to be. From pregnancy to parenthood, this is a wonderful journey to be experiencing. There will be personal challenges, self development and physical changes. This is all nature's way of preparing you for motherhood and fatherhood. Embrace each part of the journey, learning from the hardships as well as the good times. All experiences will teach you something about yourself and what kind of mother or father you will be. The Nine months gestation period for a human pregnancy is a necessary time period; as you will discover!
To be prepared for childbirth, you want to feel fully informed about pregnancy. This allows you to make your own informed decisions on all things from conception, pregnancy, birth and baby. Questions will arise about how you want to birth, what nappies or diapers you should use and what clothes for a baby to buy. Everyone will have an opinion. Some advice you will appreciate and some will be annoying. If the advice is imposing or annoying, we suggest you create a comfortable and standard response such as thank you, that's a good thing to think about, and then move the conversation on. Have your standard line ready to use to avoid a lecture from a well meaning friend or relative.
The question of breastfeeding will arise early in your pregnancy. Your breasts are one of the first physical changes you will notice about yourself as a woman. A relative, friend or partner may even notice, commenting on your large breasts. Your nipples may change colour or become sensitive before you even know you are pregnant. It is one of nature's little pregnancy signs. We suggest you join an on line "pregnancy this week" or "this week in pregnancy" service which is a wonderful way to track how your pregnant body may be feeling as well as how your baby is growing on a weekly basis. These services are often wonderful for the dad to be as well as there is a lot for a partner of a pregnant woman to learn about the changes his/her partner will be feeling and experiencing in her pregnancy. We highly recommend the book Cheers to Childbirth as one of the most excellent resources we have found for a father to be on the subject of pregnancy and preparing for pregnancy. We also recommend you seek out a cheers for childbirth workshop in your nearest city. Type Cheers to Childbirth or Beer and Bubs workshops in your search engine to find them.
Friends and family of pregnant mums and dads to be will want to shower you with gifts. Be prepared for this! Some gifts are wanted, some are not. Let people who love you shower you with gifts, accept everything, even if you don't know what it is or if it will be useful, or think that you don't like it. You may discover suddenly when you have a 6 month old baby that you love it! So create a good storage system for the lovely hand me downs and new gifts that you will be given for your baby.
If you need to educate your friends and family about your personal needs for an organic pregnancy, you should explain this early in your pregnancy. It is often good to ask friends and close family to spread the word so people hear about your need for an organic and natural pregnancy. A woman will naturally seek out natural hair dye, organic shampoo, organic skin care and organic clothing during the pre-pregnancy period, continuing this during your pregnancy. This is a great idea for your health and for your own education. It helps you slowly transition to organic products without it being an expensive or daunting process.
Why Not Throw an Organic Baby Shower?
Every pregnant woman will be asked at some stage, are you having a baby shower? A baby shower can also be known as a Baby Gift Registry or Baby Moon Party. It can also be called a Blessing Way in some communities (see our article on blessing ways in article session).
If you choose to hold a baby shower, it is fun for guests as well as you to have a theme. If you want to create a gift registry that has meaning to you and enjoy the fun side of throwing a baby shower, you can choose "organic baby" as your theme. Set up a gift registry through the Nature's Child online gift registry service, or simply suggest a theme to ensure gifts brought for you are only organic, handmade or eco-friendly. Creating a Nature's Child Wishlist and sharing a link with your friends is another great suggestive option.
A party theme will help keep the focus of your baby shower on what matters to you, organic baby products. A theme gives guests a focus and can make your baby shower extra special and memorable for the mum-to-be and dad-to-be. You can call always call it an earth-friendly baby shower, an eco-friendly baby shower or simply a green baby shower if you prefer. Choosing to have an organic baby shower will help your friends know that this mum-to-be has an eco-friendly focus, allowing them to choose organic baby clothing for kids and eco-friendly nursery items. This ensures that you will love all your gifts and allows you to explain you wish to protect your newborn baby from the effects of exposure to nasty chemicals. Most people understand in these times that organic baby products are important. We all need to do our bit to help preserve the environment and live a chemical free lifestyle where possible. A new baby is a wonderful time to learn about organic products for yourself as well as your baby.
If your baby shower guests ask you for suggestions, focus on the general practical items that you will always need and can never have enough of such as soft organic baby blankets and organic baby wraps, organic baby teething toys, organic cotton clothing for children and even organic nappies, diapers and organic baby bath products.
If you choose to have an organic baby shower, we would love to hear from you! Please send us your photos and stories to help other women have a successful organic baby gift registry just like you!
