News Flash: Baba Slings are now being used in the below listed Australian Hospitials: Nambour General Hospitial, Maleny, Selengor, Royal Womans, The Birth Centre in Brisbane, and many. As well as Child Care Centres throughout Australia.
Tribal people knew the benefits of wearing babies and small children. Today, medical research supports this ancient wisdom. Here are some of its findings:
°According to studies at Tulane University, Baby Slings offer the single most successful method for optimal neurological development in infants
°Wearing baby creates children who feel secure and confident in themselves, their parents and their environment
°A parent is hands-free to fulfill daily activities, yet remain close to baby
°Centuries of baby-wearing have shown that children are physically, emotionally and mentally better off when worn in a sling for several hours a day. This allows a mother’s and father’s deep responsive nature to well to the surface, and anticipate baby’s requirements
°Baby wearing provides the exact amount of stimulation an infant requires to develop muscle tone, increase cardiac output and circulation, promote respiration and aid digestion. It energizes the vestibular nervous system. Infants experience reduced rate of wind and colic. Carried babies often are better able to complete their exterogestation period than those who are not
° Regular carrying of babies produces ‘quiet alertness,’ where the baby peacefully and calmly observes its surroundings without fussing and crying. One study found that wearing babies reduced crying and fussiness by 43% during the day and 51% at night Premature and special need infants can also gain much by being worn, for it creates a space similar to the womb
°Baby wearing assists levels of the mothering hormone prolactin. Mothers who use a sling tend to feel much closer to their babies which in turn enhances breast-feeding
From “Nurturing Magazine,” 1998. Web site: www.nurturing.ca
“We have been studying how baby wearing improves behavior. Parents would come into our office exclaiming, ‘As long as we wear our baby he’s content.’ Research has validated this parental observation: babies who are carried more cry less.” DR William Sears M.D. Martha Sears R.N. “The Discipline Book”
“Bodily connectedness is the basis of that interconnectedness with others that we call society, and this is brought about by the closeness of mother and child in infancy. Such a close bodily relationship is the basis of feeling good about oneself.” Ashley Montague “Touching”
“From the time babies are born they learn and grow through sensitive communication with their environment. Physical touch transmits the whole world from parent to baby, as well as providing deep healing and nourishment.” Joyce and Barry Vissell MD, RN, MS
I purchased my first baba sling 11 months ago just before my third baby was born. I use it almost every day. Its so compact and easy to use, I love it, just don't know how I managed without it before. I have had so many people ask me about it, where I got it, is it comfy etc. Most of my friends now have one or are getting one just because they always see me with it. I have strangers asking me about it, not just mums or mums to be but grandparents, uncles and aunts. This is an amazing product and so much better than other baby carriers on the market. Worth every cent.
Thank you, Meredith
